How much more you will get
| 2026/27 a week | From April 2027 a week | Increase a week | Increase a year | Rise | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Full new State Pension | £241.30 | £250.70 | £9.40 | £488.80 | 3.9% |
| Full basic State Pension | £184.90 | £192.10 | £7.20 | £374.40 | 3.9% |
If your new State Pension is below the full rate, that amount normally rises by the same percentage, and any protected payment rises with CPI (below). For example, someone on £200.00 a week of new State Pension, with no protected payment, would get about £207.79.

Why the rise is 3.9%
The triple lock raises the full new and basic State Pension each April by the highest of three measures:
- earnings growth: 3.9%, the figure used for April 2027;
- CPI inflation: 3.5% in the 12 months to September 2026, according to the Office for National Statistics;
- 2.5%.
Earnings growth was the highest, so it set the rise. How the triple lock works covers the rules, recent increases and the change announced for the next Parliament.
Additional State Pension and protected payments
Not every part of the State Pension follows the triple lock.
- Additional State Pension (SERPS or State Second Pension) on top of the basic State Pension normally rises with CPI.
- Protected payments on top of the full new State Pension also rise with CPI, which GOV.UK confirms.
CPI was 3.5% in the year to September 2026, so these parts would normally rise by less than the 3.9% on the full rate. DWP's 2027/28 benefit and pension rates will confirm the exact figures.
Pension Credit
The 2027/28 Pension Credit rates have not been published yet. Until April 2027 the Pension Credit calculator uses the current 2026/27 amounts.
Tax from April 2027
The full new State Pension of £13,036.40 a year is above the frozen £12,570 Personal Allowance. The Budget introduced a Pension Tax Allowance from April 2027 to 2030 so that people over State Pension age with total income up to that amount do not pay income tax. See the Pension Tax Allowance calculator.

April 2027 State Pension questions
How much will the State Pension go up in April 2027?
By 3.9%. The full new State Pension rises from £241.30 to £250.70 a week, £9.40 more a week or about £488.80 a year. The full basic State Pension is due to rise from £184.90 to £192.10 a week.
Why is the April 2027 rise 3.9%?
Under the triple lock the full State Pension rises by the highest of earnings growth, inflation (CPI) and 2.5%. Earnings growth of 3.9% was higher than CPI inflation of 3.5% in the year to September 2026.
Will my Additional State Pension go up by 3.9%?
Not necessarily. Additional State Pension (SERPS or State Second Pension) and the protected payment on top of the new State Pension normally rise in line with CPI, not the triple lock. CPI was 3.5% in the year to September 2026; DWP's 2027/28 rates will confirm the figure.
Do I need to do anything to get the increase?
No. The increase is applied automatically to State Pension payments from April 2027. The first payment that includes it depends on your payment day.
Will I pay tax on the higher State Pension?
From April 2027 the full new State Pension (£13,036.40 a year) is above the £12,570 Personal Allowance. A new Pension Tax Allowance means people over State Pension age with total income up to that amount will not pay income tax.
